The Weddington Town Council on June 8 voted unanimously to adopt a resolution supporting the town’s push for a unique ZIP code and urged residents to contact U.S. senators to press for Senate Bill 455.
Mayor Bell told the council the measure would give Weddington its own postal identity and that the change would be phased in over time — the post office will provide a transition period for businesses and residents. “They’ll give you two years to convert everything over,” the mayor said in response to a resident’s question about business impacts.
Council members discussed how the change could reduce confusion with neighboring addresses and agreed to transmit the resolution and coordinate outreach to the congressional delegation. The mayor encouraged residents to contact Senators and to work with the town’s congressional representative to help the bill advance through the Senate.
The resolution was adopted as a standalone item and the council recorded unanimous support.
