Broken Bow approves $31,500 purchase of 2023 police interceptor; city reallocates older pickup to rescue unit

Administrator Schmidt explained the procurement and personnel rationale during the special meeting Aug. 1, 2024. Schmidt said Dave Baltz will transition to the Rescue Department to head advanced life support duties (ALS) and the Rescue Department would like to use the 2013 pickup currently assigned to the police department. Councilmembers said purchasing the new interceptor and reallocating the older pickup would address both departments' needs and avoid buying another police vehicle in the next budget year. Funding for the purchase was recorded in the minutes as coming from funds set aside in the Rescue budget, the Police budget and from the Administrator Equipment budget.
Councilmember Luke Wassom moved to approve the payment and Councilmember Russ Smith seconded. The motion passed on a roll-call vote with Smith, Wassom and Holland voting aye and Councilmember Chris Myers absent. The minutes do not record further contract terms, trade-in details, or which departments will be responsible for vehicle outfitting or ongoing maintenance.
