Four candidates present statements for Mukilteo council vacancy; Q&A scheduled next Monday

Four applicants addressed the Mukilteo City Council May 11 as part of the process to fill a council vacancy. City Administrator Powers explained each candidate would have three minutes and that the council would pose questions at the next meeting.
Riaz Khan, who said he served on the Mukilteo City Council from 2019 to 2023, highlighted past appointments he participated in and local projects he helped advance. "My name is Riaz Khan. I live in Mukilteo over the past 18 years," he told the council and described experience with parks, traffic calming and appointment processes.
Ashwin Sanghvi described extensive outreach to residents and framed Mukilteo as a place to preserve. "Mukilteo is a gem," Sanghvi said, emphasizing waterfront opportunity, collaborative skills from a long technology career and his vice chair role on the planning commission.
Dave Schlosser presented himself as a longtime local volunteer and business owner, stressing family and community involvement. "My name is Dave Schlosser, and I'm seeking this position to be a part of Mukilteo's continued success as a great family community," he said.
Alona Van Duzer outlined civic engagement and priorities including fiscal responsibility, transparency, the fire department’s future and waterfront development. "I strongly believe in doing the due diligence to understand the full impact on our citizens and city," Van Duzer said, adding she would seek clear data on options and costs.
Powers noted that questioning of candidates is scheduled for next Monday and the council will follow its appointment process from there. No votes or appointments were taken during the May 11 session.
