The Othello School District Board recessed into an executive session on June 8, 2016, to discuss the performance of a public employee and said no decisions would be made during that session. The board planned to return at 7:00 p.m.
The meeting opened with a brief welcome and the Pledge of Allegiance led by the board chair. After the pledge, the chair announced, “At this time, the board will recess into executive session until 700 p.m. to discuss the performance of a public employee. No decisions will be made at that time and we'll be back at 7.”
The chair added an informal request as the meeting recessed: “Please don't put that on YouTube.” No votes or formal actions on personnel were recorded in the public portion of the meeting; the announcement stated explicitly that no decisions would be made during the executive session.
The board said it would return at 7:00 p.m. The public portion of the record for June 8, 2016 consisted of the opening remarks, the pledge and the procedural announcement to move into the closed session.
