Grafton council approves emergency repairs and cost-share application for Red River raw water line

GRAFTON, N.D. — The City of Grafton City Council on May 6 approved emergency repair bids and authorized applying for state cost-share assistance after Water Superintendent Tom Dusek described damage to the city’s Red River raw water line southeast of the Water Plant.
Dusek presented photographs and told the council the south-bank segment of the raw water line is exposed and the north bank has a break in the line. He said the south-bank pipe must be bored under the Park River to prevent freezing in cold weather.
Council approved two contractor estimates for the emergency repair: Bohlman Trenching’s repair bid of $71,900 and Ellingson’s proposal to bore 550 feet for $119,800. The motions were approved on roll call votes with Councilmembers Brad Burianek, Donavon McMillian, Loree Osowski, Brian Sieben and Greg Young voting in favor; Kylen Kostrzewski, Phil Ray and Darrin Wollitz were absent.
The council also voted to submit a cost-share application to DWR to help fund the emergency work. The motion to submit the application was moved by Brad Burianek, seconded by Brian Sieben, and passed unanimously among members present.
