Lake County Council proclaims June as Cancer Survivors, Alzheimer’s and PTSD awareness months; veterans recognized

Resolution No. 2633 proclaimed June as National Cancer Survivors Month; the council read statistics and language endorsing survivor support and research. The council also adopted a resolution recognizing June as Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month, noting national caregiver statistics and the need for continued research and services.
A third resolution recognized PTSD awareness month and acknowledged Jim Chancellor (named in the resolution) and his work with veteran outreach and the Lake County Veterans Court. A veteran who spoke thanked the council and described outreach efforts, saying education is important to reduce stigma and connect veterans with benefits and services.
Township officials who spoke in public comment also thanked the council for approving township allotments used for local public-safety needs and for recognizing veterans at the meeting.
