Committee tables meal-policy amid federal guidance, approves graduation change and hears carnival plans

The committee received late-arriving federal guidance on school meal policy and chose to table the second reading and vote on a proposed meal-charge policy revision until later in the spring so it can reconcile conflicting Department of Education and USDA direction.
On graduation requirements, the committee voted to adopt a temporary competency determination for the Class of 2025 after the MCAST requirement was eliminated. Under the stop-gap policy approved at the meeting, students in the class of 2025 will meet core-course competency via English 1 and 2, algebra and geometry, and a lab-science option (biology, introductory physics, physics or chemistry); the committee said it will revisit requirements for later classes as part of strategic planning and subject to state guidance.
The Norton Veterans Council (speaker Roger Myers) outlined plans for its June 26–29 carnival, which will coordinate with Founders Day on June 27. Organizers described parking and shuttle plans, fireworks staging (to be reviewed with the state fire marshal), and use of school-related open spaces with timing set to avoid conflicts with the school calendar.
Committee members also approved minutes and entered warrants into the public record as part of routine business before adjourning.
