Taylor School District awards five elementary roof contracts totaling $4.74 million

Board Vice President Korey Morris said the awards followed staff recommendations that weighed price and prior vendor performance. The contracts and approved amounts are Schreiber Roofing for Kinyon Elementary ($884,300) and McDowell Elementary ($1,252,600); Lutz Roofing for Moody Elementary ($992,860) and Randall Elementary ($1,212,060); and Sheena Roofing for Taylor Parks Elementary ($402,700). Each award passed 6‑0 with President Linda Moore excused.
The board heard from Mr. Giraud, who presented bid comparisons and noted that warranties on the chosen systems run 20 years while expected roof lifespan is typically 30–35 years or longer. Trustees discussed scheduling; the board and administration said work is planned for summer months to reduce student exposure to odors and construction activity.
A public commenter asked why Taylor Parks received roof funding amid earlier discussions of a possible closure. Administration clarified that Taylor Parks will remain open and that any utilization/closure items are not moving forward at this time.
The board’s approvals followed separate motions for each school. Motions, seconders and unanimous tallies recorded in the minutes match the actions the board took: Moody (motion by Kathie Fields; supported by Mark Westphal), McDowell (motion by Justin Mordarski; supported by Korey Morris), Kinyon (motion by Kathie Fields; supported by Korey Morris), Randall (motion by Korey Morris; supported by Justin Mordarski) and Taylor Parks (motion by Justin Mordarski; supported by Mark Westphal).
Next steps: the district will finalize contracts and schedule summer work; trustees noted funding comes from the district’s general fund with potential pursuit of a state infrastructure grant for related site work.
