Board authorizes advertising of Comcast franchise ordinance pending Comcast approval

The Longswamp Township Board of Supervisors on May 12 authorized the solicitor to advertise an ordinance to approve a proposed Comcast Cable Franchise Agreement, subject to Comcast’s legal review and approval.
Solicitor Beth Kohl said the proposed agreement was drafted to align terms with the township’s existing Service Electric agreement and that Comcast’s current interest stems from grant funding to deploy service to properties that are presently unserved. Kohl asked the board to authorize advertising the ordinance so it may be enacted at a future meeting once Comcast’s legal team signs off.
Board action: Mike Sacks made the motion to authorize advertising the required ordinance; Mark Hilbert seconded, and the board voted unanimously to authorize the solicitor to advertise the ordinance upon agreement between the parties.
Next steps: The ordinance will be advertised as required by law and placed on a future agenda for enactment if Comcast and the township finalize the agreement.
