Bridget King, a member of DuPont’s Tree Advisory Commission, told the City Council on April 14 that the city’s trees deliver broad benefits—from cooling streets and managing stormwater to improving community health and property values. “I ask you to join us…in valuing our trees and their quiet contribution to our daily lives,” King said during the public-comment period.
Mayor Ronald J. Frederick read a formal proclamation declaring April 24, 2026, as Arbor Day in DuPont and invited residents to a Liberty Tree planting ceremony at Ross Plaza on April 19 at 1 p.m. “I, Ronald J. Frederick, mayor of the city of DuPont, Washington, do hereby proclaim 04/24/2026 as Arbor Day in the City of DuPont,” the proclamation stated.
King said the city’s urban forest supports physical activity, reduces stress and chronic disease risks and improves school performance near tree-lined campuses, and urged residents watching asynchronously to participate in tree-planting and stewardship activities. The council paused for a brief photo opportunity with King after the proclamation.
The session’s public-comment remarks followed standard procedure and did not include a council vote on a tree-specific policy. However, the public remarks reinforce the advisory commission’s outreach and the city’s scheduled Arbor Day events.
