Federal consultants report funding wins for Snohomish County and warn of transportation reauthorization timeline

Annika, Snohomish County’s government affairs manager, introduced the county’s federal consultants and noted they will return in person to meet with council members in August. Ryan Levitt summarized the county’s top federal priorities and recent progress on appropriations.
Levitt said the House Appropriations Committee included $250,000 for the county’s sustainable aviation fuel request submitted by Rep. Rick Larsen. He said the committee also funded the River Regional Trail at $1,000,000 and Alderwood Mall Parkway at $500,000, both submitted by Rep. Suzan DelBene. A request submitted by Sen. Patty Murray for an STI clinic remains pending with the Senate Appropriations Committee; Levitt said the county expects more information in June or July.
Levitt also briefed council on Congress’s broader calendar: lawmakers are working on a second reconciliation bill tied to DHS funding and other items, and a surface transportation reauthorization or extension will be needed before the current authorization expires on Sept. 30.
Council members thanked the consultants and asked clarifying questions about the Murray request and timing of appropriations releases. Levitt said the county had five or six funding requests in play and characterized the current prospects as encouraging.
