Board approves custodial supply bids, Program of Studies change and schedules events

At its May 11 meeting the Smyth County School Board approved several routine but operationally important items: vendor bids for custodial supplies, a revision to the division’s Program of Studies, appointment of grievance hearing officers, and scheduling of events.
On a 7–0 vote the board approved custodial supplies bids from General Sales Company; Tri-State Complete Chemical & Paper, Inc.; Webb Chemical & Paper Inc.; The Ford System; American Paper & Twine; and Unipack Corporation (motion by Lynn White, seconded by Mr. Johnson). The board also approved a recommended change to the Program of Studies presented by Dr. Kelli Hughes (motion by Dr. Paul Grinstead, seconded by Mac Buchanan; vote 7–0).
Separately, the board authorized hosting a retirement reception at Riverfront Restaurant on June 4, 2026 at 11:30 a.m., approved a called meeting for May 28, 2026 at 5:00 p.m., and approved three new employee grievance hearing officers; all passed by recorded unanimous votes.
