At the April 14 public comment period resident Frank Hannon asked county officials to track direct and indirect costs associated with protests, saying recorded security expenses totaled $10,150.13 for 2025 and $9,399.09 for 2026 to date (January Ice Out $783.43; March No Kings $8,615.66), for a combined $19,489.22.
Hannon said projected 2026 costs could reach $30,000–$40,000, which he described as significant for seniors on fixed incomes and for county employees who received a 1% raise in 2026. Councilmember John Basham responded during the meeting that individuals who choose to protest "should pay their own way."
