County reports nearly $4.4M in self-insurance payouts so far in 2026; premium increase forecast 5%–7%

During New Business on April 14 Human Resources Director Sadie McKinley reported year-to-date health costs, saying Anthem payments exceeded $3.4 million and the County Self Insurance Fund (4710) had paid nearly $4.4 million to date. She said $177,000 was paid to the Hendricks Center of Excellence and clinic costs were $317,674.61.
McKinley said the renewal outlook was favorable compared with larger spikes seen elsewhere, forecasting a 5%–7% increase in renewals. Auditor Jennifer Weston distributed draft Innkeepers Tax guidelines during the same portion of the meeting and County Attorney Doug Masson advised that expenditures should remain within the statutory intent for the Innkeepers Tax (tourism, recreation, economic development and quality of life).
No council action was taken on health insurance at the meeting; staff advised the board and provided spending figures for budget planning.
