Cwley said the town initially expected $2,000 and had submitted an extensive proposal for a larger award.
Cwley outlined three planned community events that will use the funding: converting the June 25 food‑truck night into a soccer night featuring visiting clubs and mascots; enhancing the July 3 fireworks and music night with soccer activities; and entering a soccer-themed float in the Fourth of July parade. Cwley said organizers will purchase equipment such as bouncy houses and work with local soccer leaders on logistics.
Cwley also cautioned that screening FIFA matches publicly would require a license that could cost about $20,000, which helped shape plans away from large public screenings. A flyer announcing the events was expected to be distributed the following day and promotion would begin on social media.
The council did not take action on the funding at the meeting; Cwley presented the update as public information and outreach planning.
