Pelham Manor awards catch-basin cleaning contract, staff updates Monroe stormwater timeline

The Pelham Manor Board of Trustees on May 26 awarded the village’s annual catch-basin cleaning contract to Fred A. Cook Jr., Inc. for $36,500, a contract described as covering all 365 village-owned catch basins and intended to support the village’s MS4 stormwater program.
Manager Luft told trustees Fred A. Cook Jr., Inc. was the lowest responsive proposer and has prior experience working in Pelham and neighboring jurisdictions. The Board approved the award unanimously and directed DPW to execute the contract and provide a cleaning schedule.
During public comment, resident Risena Martinaj asked for an update on the Monroe stormwater project. Manager Luft said engineers are finalizing bid documents, that the project must receive formal approval from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) before construction can begin and that the village is required to go out to bid for a project of the expected size.
A separate public comment from Alexy Scholl raised an issue with culverts near the Hutchinson Parkway; Manager Luft said the village is coordinating with New York City Parks and other agencies on that matter.
The catch-basin award and the pending Monroe project represent near-term stormwater maintenance and capital work; DPW and engineering staff will report back with schedules and permit details.
