Commissioners approve Barracuda backup and email-protection contract

The Bel Air South commissioners voted unanimously to approve a purchase of Barracuda Backup and Barracuda email-protection services under an SHI International piggyback contract.
Mike, the staff presenter, said the backup product and email-protection suite would prevent data loss, support disaster recovery and provide email defenses including spam and malware filtering, impersonation and account-takeover protection, encryption, data-loss prevention and cloud archiving. He gave itemized costs: "the cloud storage service is 22,631.76 and the email protection is 16,857.60 for a total of 39,489.36," and recommended the board approve the purchase.
After brief questions, the board took a roll-call vote. Commissioner Foss, Commissioner Chismar, Commissioner Taylor, Commissioner Hanley and Chair Eddie all voted "I," approving the purchase.
The contract will be procured by piggybacking on the City of Mesa, Arizona IT solutions contract with SHI International, staff said, which the town uses to access pricing and terms without a separate solicitation.
No dissenting views were recorded during the discussion. The board moved on to other agenda items after the vote.
