Committee approves quitclaim deed to support redevelopment of former Mayline property

The Sheboygan City committee approved a resolution authorizing city officials to execute a quitclaim deed conveying a parcel associated with the former Mayline property to the Redevelopment Authority to support redevelopment.
City staff explained the deed is a housekeeping measure to correct errors in the legal description that prevented recording. Staff said the property’s chain of title traces to historic railroad conveyances and required extensive deed work and outside surveying to resolve inconsistencies. City Administrator Bradley told the committee staff have been working through multiple parcels and ownership issues and “we hope this is the last part of that process.”
Administrator Bradley said the developer had set a June 15 anticipated closing date and that a contract amendment will be proposed because the project is about a year behind schedule due to title and rail-related issues. The committee moved and approved the resolution by voice vote.
The action is presented as a corrective technical step to enable recording and transfer; staff cautioned there may be additional historical title issues uncovered as records are reviewed.
