Committee shrinks under county rules; Parks committee moves regular meetings to second Wednesday at 9 a.m.

At the June 8 Marquette County Parks & Rural Planning Committee meeting, staff explained recent county board rule changes that altered committee membership and timing.

The presenter told members that county board rule changes implemented after April elections reduced the number of county board seats on the committee and limited citizen appointees. As a result, Chuck is now the county board chair and serves as chair of this committee, and Mike remains on the committee as chair of highway. The presenter said Karen Wampler lost her seat because her term was up and the county chose not to reappoint her for that slot this cycle.

Members then discussed a recurring scheduling conflict with Executive Finance and agreed to move regular Parks committee meetings from Mondays to the second Wednesday of the month at 9:00 a.m. in the same room; members said Parks meets about six or seven times a year so the scheduling change should ease conflicts.

The committee did not take formal votes on reappointments at the meeting; the presenter said he would put any formal wording about membership changes on the next agenda for board consideration.

Next step: staff will place any recommended membership wording and the contractor-funding recommendation on the next meeting agenda.
