What the board approved: Among the actions the board approved were a one‑year renewal with Warwick to continue support for the district’s MEL phone system while staff explore cloud-based alternatives; an update to the district’s Johnson Controls HVAC automation to maintain compatibility with planned technology upgrades; a renewal of APAG website and classroom-communication services; and a construction contract with Always Construction to replace damaged concrete around the high school loading dock.
Personnel and legal items: Trustees voted to retain employment-law counsel to investigate an administrative complaint and authorized a contract with Soliant to provide a certified staff member for summer preschool programming (through July 2). The board also approved routine professional-development travel, the disposal/recycling process for obsolete textbooks and a multi-item consent agenda of hires, resignations and extended-time approvals.
Roll-call outcomes: Each listed contract and resolution was carried by roll call with the vote recorded as: Miss Shepard — Yes; Mr. Blackwell — Yes; Miss Cheeks — Yes; Miss Hunter — Yes; Miss Moore — Yes. The board handled several settlement resolutions and a salary-schedule resolution for exempt cleaners and monitors using the same roll-call process.
Context and procedure: Staff explained the Warwick renewal is intentionally a one‑year term to give the district time to evaluate alternatives and, if warranted, to bid a longer-term replacement. Mr. Ben Kelly and other staff explained the Johnson Controls upgrade is required to keep the HVAC automation compatible with an upcoming Windows upgrade. Several items were routine renewals of existing vendors or short-term contracts to maintain continuity of operations into summer.
What’s next: Staff will continue procurement and negotiation work on any longer-term migrations (telephony or HVAC) and will return to the board with recommendations, written proposals and budget details where appropriate.
