Des Moines County supervisors approve $397,173.82 in claims, personnel moves and workers’ comp renewal

The Des Moines County Board of Supervisors on June 2 approved routine fiscal and personnel business, including $397,173.82 in accounts payable claims and a FY26/27 actuarial services agreement with Howard E. Nyhart Company.

Vice Chair Tom Broeker moved to approve the accounts payable claims, and Member Jim Cary seconded; the board approved the motion, which under the meeting’s blanket notation passed unanimously unless otherwise stated. The board also approved the Howard E. Nyhart Company service agreement for actuarial services.

Adam Kerns of Hub International briefed the board on the FY27 workers’ compensation renewal before the board voted to approve the policy renewal; Broeker moved and Cary seconded the action. The board approved multiple personnel items: Patrick Ogorzalek was hired as a correctional officer at a salary listed as $55,966.22 effective June 4; Andrew Brown’s resignation was recorded as effective June 5; and Mike Hayes was terminated effective May 28. The board approved a separate personnel action for Local Health reporting the resignation of LPN Prissicilla Krieger effective June 10 and approved Christopher Breuer as lead maintenance new hire at an annual salary of $34,934.41 effective June 1.

County officials also approved the May 26, 2026 meeting minutes. The board received routine reports from department heads, including Sheriff Kevin Glendening’s update that the jail population was 95 adults and one juvenile and that 25 inmates were housed out of county. County Treasurer Janelle Nalley-Londquist warned property owners that "You have until June 12th to pay those taxes and avoid the tax sale," noting the tax-sale list is published in the Hawk Eye.

The meeting ran through routine consent and administrative items and adjourned at 9:48 a.m.
