Parks & Recreation reports busy spring at THF Park, adds safety upgrades to host tournaments

Mings outlined youth and adult participation figures: the Boys & Girls Club league had 35 teams this spring; Denison Youth Sports fielded 24 teams and is preparing for all‑star play; adult softball leagues have returned to the T‑Bar adult softball complex and adult tournament activity has increased compared with recent years. "We had to meet that guideline and we did," he said when describing installation of backstop padding to satisfy tournament hosting standards.
Mings acknowledged challenges in tracking overnight hotel stays for visiting teams and said staff are evaluating measures to better capture lodging data to demonstrate tourism economic impact. The board asked about hotel coordination; Mings said the department continues to look for improved tracking methods.
