District reports widespread STAR growth, renews instructional partnerships with coaching and math initiative

Dr. Gilbert presented the district’s STAR assessment results and recommended renewal of two instructional partnerships he said supported the gains.
In an overview of K–12 STAR growth, Dr. Gilbert said every school saw an increase in the percentage of students meeting ELA benchmarks and the majority of schools improved in math benchmarks and expected growth. He highlighted Twain with roughly "STAR 27% growth from last year to this year at Twain," and said King, LCC, Kennedy, Stuben and Taft also showed notable gains in effect size or percentage meeting benchmarks.
To sustain instructional improvement the administration requested renewal of its coaching partnership with Corin/Cohen Press (Dr. Nicole Law) to continue a train-the-trainer model for administrators and instructional coaches, and recommended continuing the Metro Chicago Math Initiative for job-embedded math coaching. The board approved both renewals by roll call.
Dr. Gilbert also reminded families that online registration opened July 1 for current students and announced a districtwide in-person registration event on June 16 and centralized registration Tuesdays and Wednesdays at the high school community center through Aug. 10.
