District staff told trustees the plan would reduce the fleet by about 27 vehicles, eliminate a prior lease, and cost approximately $1.7 million per year under the new lease. The district plans to purchase seven reserve buses with proceeds from totaled district-owned vehicles to serve as backups for breakdowns or occasional extra routes.
Transportation staff described multiple fleet efficiencies in the plan, including lower depreciation, reduced insurance costs and fuel savings. A board roll call carried the lease approval unanimously; staff said the vendor believes it can deliver vehicles in time for the start of the school year, and the district would make an initial payment upon signing to expedite delivery.
The board asked staff to finalize lease documents and update the board on delivery timelines and any implementation constraints. Transportation was assigned follow-up to confirm delivery dates so buses are available before students return for the next school year.
