Kankakee SD 111 board approves contracts, transfers and capital projects; multiple votes carry

Kankakee School District 111’s Board of Education approved a package of routine and storm-related actions at its June meeting, including service contracts for instructional coaching, a $1,000,000 transfer to the capital projects fund and a working-cash transfer to cover storm-abatement invoices while insurance reimbursements arrive.
The board voted to renew a contract with Corin/Cohen Press for continued coaching and professional learning and to continue the Metro Chicago Math Initiative (MCMI) partnership, both recommended by district instructional staff. Members also approved an installation agreement for a replacement main gym floor at the high school, and a memorandum of understanding with LA Architects to prioritize roofing at the high school, Kennedy Middle School and Roma Park School.
On finance and risk-management matters the board approved a $1,000,000 interfund transfer from the education fund to the capital projects fund and a separate working-cash transfer to support cashflow while insurance claims are processed. Trustees also approved the district’s fiscal 2027 property, casualty, student-accident, cyber liability and workers-compensation insurance renewals, which staff said carry an approximate 12% premium increase and some higher deductibles.
Transport and operations actions included approval of a five-year vehicle lease with Midwest Transit to replace storm-damaged buses. Staff said the new fleet plan reduces the district vehicle count by roughly 27 units and combines leased vehicles with seven purchased backup buses paid for from proceeds of totaled district-owned vehicles.
