The superintendent recommended the position, explaining that the district already has several certified staff and that this new hire would help coordinate specialized services and allow backfilling of the incumbent classroom position. Board members asked clarifying questions about the position’s scope and whether the specialist would serve elementary schools primarily; the superintendent said the primary need is at elementary levels but the person could consult at the high schools as needed. The motion to create the position passed by voice vote.
The board also approved the personnel list and a personnel-list addendum presented in the executive file. During discussion of the personnel list, a board member flagged that the published list of professional substitute resignations stopped at last names beginning with the letter "E"; a staff member said additional names will be provided later.
