Parma Heights updates parks, pool, roadwork and community events

Recreation Director Sedlak said the city held its 159th Annual Memorial Day Parade despite the weather, noted the new ladder truck led the procession and reported the Commons Playground rubber base has been installed; mulch is scheduled to be added later that week with a ribbon cutting on June 2 at 5:00 p.m. Sedlak said the tennis court contractor was delayed by weather but work resumes Thursday, and the municipal pool is scheduled to open for the season on June 13.
Service Director Sepik described the Mandalay resurfacing project, scheduled for the last week of May or the first week of June. Sepik said crews will mill approximately four inches of roadway, install a three‑inch base layer promptly, make needed concrete repairs and then lay the final surface; the road should remain open for most of the work. Sepik also announced a computer recycling event on Saturday, June 13 from 9:00 a.m. until noon at the Service Garage and reported that the Cuyahoga County Board of Health has begun treating about 895 catch basins in a program to reduce mosquito larvae.
Mayor Gallo reported the Senior Center served and delivered 1,190 meals over the prior two weeks and described recent senior outings and activities. Finance Director Satow introduced new Finance Director Janice Baumann, who will take initial responsibility for payroll with some crossover duties in human resources.
Council members asked a few clarifying questions (for example, whether Mandalay would be closed during resurfacing). Service Director Sepik responded that the road should remain open most of the time and described the staged milling and layering process. There were no public comments during the meeting.
