Pre-application for church on a town-owned open-space parcel prompts questions from Erie advisory board

Staff informed the board that the town received a pre-application for the Page property (Village at Cold Creek) from St. Scholastica proposing a church site. "It is a pre app for St. Scholastica and that's pretty much it," staff said, adding the pre-application is high-level and that a staff-only meeting was scheduled to review feasibility.
Board members raised concerns about the proposal because the Page property appears on the town's open-space priority list. The Chair said, "I'm a little bit concerned about waiting until they actually submit an application," and urged staff to share relevant information once it is permitted by counsel. One board member asked whether the pre-app includes affordable housing; staff said details are not yet available and the pre-app does not necessarily reflect a full land-use application.
Staff said pre-application materials are public when submitted, but that staff will check with counsel before sharing the actual pre-app packet with the advisory board. If the project proceeds to a formal land-use application, the board will have opportunities to review and provide recommendations through the standard planning and development process. No recommendation or vote was taken at tonight's meeting.
