Committee accepts construction manager's recommendation and GMP proposal for Fire Station 22

The Public Health & Safety Committee reviewed and approved the construction manager's recommendation of qualified low bidders and the guaranteed maximum price proposal for Fire Station 22 during a special meeting on June 8.

A department representative told the committee the new station will be relocated to Governor's Lane and that the board had approved the final design in recent months. The construction manager reported that the 16 trade bids opened at the end of the prior month returned "very favorable" numbers; the architect and staff reviewed the bids and recommended acceptance of the qualified low bidders and the GMP proposal.

During questions, committee members asked whether several of the subcontractors had worked on the previous Station 21; the presenters said four or five of the subcontractors had worked on that earlier project and that references had been checked for firms that were new to the village. A committee member asked whether alternate scope items were included in the stated GMP and referenced a $15 million figure in the exchange; presenters confirmed the alternates were included in that number and said they bid the alternates to allow selection flexibility but, because bids came in favorably, were able to include them.

The committee approved the recommendation and GMP by voice vote.
