The Hollis Select Board on June 8 discussed a proposed Right-to-Know policy drafted by Chrissy and Melissa and decided to postpone formal adoption pending legal review by the town attorney.
During the discussion board members raised practical questions about timing and receipt of requests, privacy for requesters, and the town’s intention to publish requester details and the cost of fulfilling requests. One member proposed changing the phrasing from "within five business days from the date of request" to "within five business days from date of receipt" to account for mail delays. The clerk said the town must follow RSA timelines and noted two open requests on the books from out of state that have required considerable staff time to process.
A board member asked whether the policy had previously existed; staff replied the town had followed state guidelines but did not have a formal policy of this scope. Members also noted pending state legislation that, if enacted, could change who qualifies as a requester and reduce the volume of out-of-state requests the town must answer.
The board concluded it would not vote on the item at the meeting and instead will forward the draft to the town attorney (Chris) for review; if feedback is available in time the item may be scheduled for the next meeting.
