Mayor and Ragland school leaders urge community support; parent raises special‑education staffing concern

Bryant Phillips, mayor of Ragland, spoke as a representative of the town and emphasized community pride and support for a local school tax vote. Principal Mr. Huffstutler reiterated the mayor’s comments and said he was proud of students and staff for their efforts. Coach Deondra Woody introduced herself as the new coach at Ragland and said she looks forward to building the program.
Parent Thomas Mnniece addressed the board about the district’s shortage of special‑education teachers, describing it as a concern for families and classroom services. He also urged the board to consider higher pay for Child Nutrition Program staff.
Board attorney Rusty St.John thanked Ragland residents for attending and for hosting hospitality; Board member Bogie Lovell and President Scott Suttle also thanked community leaders for their support. The board did not take formal action on public comments during the meeting.
The board’s next regular meeting is scheduled for May 20, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Central Office in Ashville.
