Music staff report statewide honors and plan to revive drama club

A music-department presenter told the board that students attended area and state-level music events this year, earning individual and ensemble distinctions. "We had five students attending the high school level... the concert was beautiful," the presenter said, describing a weekend at a regional festival and later performances at Proctors and in Albany for a state music celebration.
Staff highlighted a student selected for all-state vocal jazz and several students recognized in division all-star selections. The stage band returned with first-place and "superior" distinctions at a recent competition, while pop singers earned excellent distinction. The presenters described the variety show, music-in-the-parks trips and a "coach versus cancer" event as high points for student experience and fundraising.
Music staff also said they will reinstate a drama club to give students more frequent theater opportunities between the every-other-year musicals, and outlined next steps for the coming school year, including student performances at graduation and other community events.
Board members and administrators thanked teachers for their work preparing students for high-level adjudicated events. No formal board action was required on the music report; the presentation was informational and will inform planning for next year.
