Athletic director summarizes season successes, asks board to fund field and equipment upgrades

Aaron Chambers, athletic director for Johnsburg Central School District, told the board the department used grant funding this year to buy new equipment and reintroduced student-teacher placements to broaden physical-education offerings. "We started off the year really with a lot of fun getting the kids back in the routine," Chambers said, describing a mix of elementary activities, winter-Olympics units and new equipment such as a portable "nine square" installation.
Chambers highlighted athletic milestones and postseason success across fall, winter and spring sports, including sectional hosts and individual honors. "Our varsity team was able to see it for a second straight 10-win season and hosted another sectional," he said, noting several students earned all-star and state recognitions.
On facilities, Chambers asked the board to include replacement soccer goals, updated field-dragging equipment and fence repairs in future budgets, calling the current hardware worn and a potential safety hazard. He thanked community volunteers and town staff for their help preparing fields and suggested continued partnership with the town to borrow heavy equipment when appropriate rather than purchase it outright.
Board members thanked coaches and volunteers. Board member Sarah moved to include these athletics items in the capital and operations budget discussions; the motion carried as part of routine business. The board also approved several coaching appointments and volunteer assistant coach listings presented during the meeting.
Chambers said the district is continuing merger work with North Warren for several programs to strengthen participation and competitive opportunities. He described a wish list that also included a new gym and better dedicated spaces for music and chorus, and said the department will continue to tie physical education more closely to interscholastic athletics to promote lifelong activity for students.
The board did not set immediate purchase dates at the meeting but recorded the equipment requests for inclusion in budget planning for 2026–27.
