A public hearing on a proposal to vacate an alley and approve a Dutch Brothers drive-thru/site plan was continued to a date in February after planning staff reported updated site plans and neighbors argued the change would alter traffic patterns and compromise privacy.
Planning staff told council the applicant revised plans to remove a rollover curb previously included to help semi trucks turn; the revised design uses pavement striping and a scribe area to permit turning movements. Neighbors including Martha Pope presented protests and asked for more time to review changes; councilmember Carlin and others raised safety concerns about a semi turning near a school route and about the propriety of vacating an alley used by multiple property owners.
Council voted to continue the hearing to allow staff time to evaluate revised plans, to give the applicant an opportunity to present and to allow opponents to prepare additional testimony.
Why it matters: The decision pauses a potentially impactful site change and gives staff and the public more time to evaluate traffic, stormwater and safety implications before any final action.
