Alderman Stout raised concerns about past contentious comments at earlier public meetings and asked Czuba to address them. Czuba denied making the specific remarks attributed to him at that earlier event, saying, "I've been accredited with a lot of comments and none of those ... were from me." The mayor and other members urged against re‑litigating a previous highly charged meeting and asked members to take speakers at their word.
The council then took a roll‑call vote on the appointment; the clerk tallied eight yes, five no and one abstain and announced the motion passed. Czuba, if confirmed by the clerk's tally, will serve on the Downtown Revitalization Commission for a term ending in April 2029.
