Highway staff said the in-house plan responds to a high volume of problem areas and that renting a paver and roller will make the work look professional; the board discussed quantities, noted a correction from an initial 750‑ton line item to 1,000 tons, and authorized the amended amount. Targeted road sections mentioned included Hilltop, Broadway, Pleasant, Texas Hill Road and sections near the school.
Members emphasized prep work, crack sealing and the limits of thin shimming versus deeper structural repairs. Board members also suggested staff consider bringing in an experienced paving crew briefly to accelerate the crew's learning curve; staff said the town's trucks should be able to support the program.
The board approved the purchase and instructed staff to complete measurements and schedule work with equipment rental in early July, weather permitting.
