Two neighbors used the Oct. 21 public comment period to press the borough for help with property disputes.
John Polerio of 48 Beloit Ave reported that softballs regularly land in his yard, which he called unacceptable. Police Chief Dave Bauer advised Polerio to continue calling police when incidents occur and suggested that the parties might revisit court-ordered mediation if problems persist.
Jay Austin of 38 Ward Ave described ongoing problems with a neighbor at 41 Ward Ave, characterizing the property as showing hoarding and general disrepair. Austin said he had been in touch with Zoning Officer Jim Rossell and asked whether the borough could do more. Commissioners discussed options, including advising Austin that he may need to apply to the Joint Land Use Board for a variance or nonconforming fence permit if a 6-foot fence would not meet existing ordinance requirements. Commissioners asked Austin to email the municipal clerk so staff could connect him with zoning and the fire marshal for updates.
The minutes record these complaints and the officials’ procedural guidance but do not show any immediate enforcement action or formal referral taken at the meeting. Residents seeking enforcement should follow up with the police department or zoning office as advised.
