Mills County supervisors approve tax-abatement resolution, personnel promotion and $562,863 in payables

The Mills County Board of Supervisors on May 26 approved a consent agenda that included a tax-abatement resolution, a personnel promotion and payment of county bills totaling $562,863.32.

Supervisor Jack Sayers moved and Supervisor Lonnie Mayberry seconded approval of the consent agenda, which covered the agenda, minutes, a fireworks permit and accounts payable; the motion passed unanimously, Ayes 3, Nays 0.

Treasurer Melissa Loghry recommended Resolution 26-20, under Iowa Code Section 445.16, to abate $19.00 in penalties and administrative costs for property held by Becky and Svein Magnussen, co-trustees (Parcel #005727000000000000). The board approved the resolution on a 3-0 vote, directing the county treasurer to remove the charge from the county system.

The board also approved a personnel action promoting Kristen Wiederien from dispatcher to lead dispatcher at a starting rate of $30.09 per hour under the union agreement, effective May 31, 2026. The motion to approve the promotion was made by Supervisor Jack Sayers and seconded by Supervisor Lonnie Mayberry and passed 3-0.

Audra Krueger of Glenwood Betterment received approval to use the courthouse lawn on Sunday, June 28, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; that motion passed unanimously.

The consent agenda encompassed detailed payables across multiple funds. Notable amounts listed in the record include an EMA funding entry of $154,085, Motorola Solutions radios for $56,488, Schildberg Construction granular for $53,909.64 and a grand total of $562,863.32 across General Basic, Secondary Road and other funds. The board approved those payments as part of the consent motion.

No members of the public were recorded as asking for a separate vote to remove items from the consent agenda, and all recorded motions carried with a 3-0 tally. The board adjourned at 9:29 a.m.
