Council advances engineering contracts for Turkey Creek aeration and other wastewater repairs

City staff told the council on March 17 that two work authorizations with Albert Martin & Associates are budgeted and recommended to address aging equipment at the city’s wastewater treatment plants.
Mr. Johnson described the Turkey Creek aeration basin upgrades and recommended moving from an aging paddle system to a diffused-air modular aeration system that staff found both effective and energy efficient. He said the proposed work authorization for the Turkey Creek aeration renovations is for an amount not to exceed $360,000 and was included in the current budget.
A second work authorization — a not-to-exceed $110,000 agreement with the same engineering firm — covers miscellaneous 2025 wastewater-plant improvements including filter and clarifier repairs, belt-filter press controls, boiler controls and other maintenance to keep facilities safe and operational.
Council advanced both council bills on first reading. Staff said larger capital and SCADA upgrades are tracked separately; the work authorizations in this item are meant to keep facilities operating safely while larger projects are planned.
