County commissioner and state senator speak at Otsego open forum; residents raise Coborn's screening and rezoning concerns

During the May 26 open forum at the Otsego City Council meeting, Wright County Commissioner Jeanie Holland and Senator Eric Lucero provided updates on recent legislative activity and local coordination on HOA reform, and several residents raised local code-enforcement and land-use concerns.

Commissioner Jeanie Holland thanked Senator Lucero and resident Roxanne Williams for their work on an HOA reform bill and said the Association of Minnesota Counties had assisted in securing funds to update software intended to help prevent fraud. Senator Eric Lucero delivered a broader legislative update that included HOA reform, vehicle tabs and fees, fraud, Second Amendment issues, long-term disability cuts and omnibus bills, and noted that he recently filed for reelection. Roxanne Williams, a Villas of Pheasant Ridge resident, thanked the senator and the committee for work on the HOA reform bill.

Resident Kathy Coles provided an updated photograph she said showed Coborn’s had not completed required screening; City Planner Dan Licht confirmed a citation has been issued to Coborn’s. Resident Nathan Anderson said he moved to Otsego in 2019 and raised concerns that land near his home, previously zoned for larger residential lots, had been rezoned to industrial and that the proposed business expansion nearby may not have adequate screening height.

The comments were part of the open forum portion of the meeting and did not result in immediate council action recorded in the minutes beyond the citation to Coborn’s and later land-use discussion for the Jacobs Plat item.
