The West Milwaukee Village Board voted to finance a wellness initiative for the Police Department and dispatch for an estimated $7,000 in 2026 and addressed staffing and payroll questions raised during the Sept. 15 meeting.
Trustee Ragonese moved, seconded by Trustee Schuettke, to approve the wellness initiative on the recommendation of the Finance Committee. The motion passed on a roll call vote. The same meeting approved commercial vouchers and the bi-weekly payroll.
During discussion of payroll, Trustee Schuettke asked why the payroll amount was higher than usual. Assistant Administrator Kayla Casto said she would look into the variance and later explained the increase was due to overtime for flooding response.
Police Chief Shaundra Randolph told trustees that Shop with a Cop is tentatively scheduled for Dec. 12 from 6 to 9 p.m. and invited board members to volunteer. Randolph also announced she will take medical leave at the end of September for back surgery, plans to remain accessible by phone and email during her absence, and expects to return Oct. 6. She said Assistant Chief Donovan will manage the department while she is away.
Next steps: The wellness initiative financing was approved and will be processed through the Finance Committee/administration; Chief Randolphs leave was noted and departmental coverage will be handled by Assistant Chief Donovan.
