Marty reviewed several ongoing and planned projects: a master plan/obstruction survey (about 77% complete), an EV charging station that is powered and ready to go (presented fee structure approved by the council earlier), perimeter fencing design nearing bid phase, and completion of the taxiway Alpha mill and overlay construction phase in 2025 followed by a summer change order to relocate taxiway Alpha‑1 with short runway closures anticipated.
He said the airport purchased a new "FOD Commander" device to gather foreign object debris and applied for and was awarded a Community Aviation Revitalization Board (CARB) loan of $353,242 to buy a small electric airport sweeper better suited for tight confines and airport‑safe brushes. Marty also said runway 11/29 may receive "legacy" designation so routine maintenance could become eligible for FAA grant funding, and that planned LED/solar taxiway and runway lighting upgrades are part of ongoing improvements.
Marty reported the SR‑531/172 widening project will require the airport to relinquish approximately three acres on the south side of 172nd; WashDOT will reimburse the airport for fair market value and fund an approach lighting (MAL) upgrade scheduled for June 15–Sept. 17, 2026.
Council did not record a formal vote on the contract amendment in this workshop transcript; staff said FAA had provided additional construction funds and that the requested engineering amendment is to cover engineering costs for these changes. Next steps: staff requested authorization to execute the contract amendment and proceed with planned project phases and bidding where applicable.
