Residents urge countywide rent-stabilization and tenant protections during public comment

Joana Rom and other residents described rapid rent increases and loss of housing stability. "The stability of housing should not depend on where you live," one commenter said, recounting a personal rent increase of $1,000 a month that now consumes 45% of household income.
Speakers included recent graduates and long-term residents who said many households pay more than 30% or even 50% of income for rent. Tenant advocates asked the county to consider a countywide ordinance to protect renters in unincorporated areas and to provide targeted supports for vulnerable households.
Supervisors listened and some indicated willingness to continue the conversation; the board did not take immediate action but several supervisors committed to follow-up and continued dialogue with staff and community groups.
