Committee recommends closing drone subcommittee after FAA guidance review

Commissioner Bartlett reported to the Airport Advisory Committee that the drone-subcommittee reviewed current FAA regulations and no local intervention is required at this time. He said pilots raised safety concerns, but after reviewing FAA guidance, the subcommittee recommended closing the group.
"In reviewing the FAA regulations that are constantly changing, they've changed us recently," Bartlett said, and noted that local enforcement can be handled by the FAA if someone violates the rules. He recommended the committee close the subcommittee rather than pursue a local regulatory approach.
A commissioner asked whether a motion was needed to terminate the subcommittee; Bartlett reiterated his recommendation and the chair accepted the recommendation and closed the discussion. No additional action or purchase was authorized related to the subcommittee at that time.
