Red Willow County schedules June 22 budget hearing; supervisors report on weeds, Extension staffing changes

Dan Miller, a certified public accountant, told the Red Willow County Board of Commissioners on June 8 that changes were necessary to the county budget and announced a public budget hearing for Monday, June 22, 2026, at 9:45 a.m.
The board also received routine departmental updates. Ron Soden, the county's Noxious Weed Supervisor, presented his April report card, said thistle is beginning to crown in areas of the county and noted he has started to receive complaints about weeds; he also reported completion of required training. Brandi Hilton-Hagemann briefed the board about Extension Office staffing: Tasha Wulf has left the position and the office is seeking a new childcare specialist while staff prepare for the upcoming fair.
During the citizens' comment period, resident Dale Stritt said he followed a county gravel truck and described the experience as "like being in a sandstorm," raising a concern about whether trucks were being tarped; Chairman Ted Gans said the tarp needs repair and will be used soon.
The board adjourned to meet again June 22, when the scheduled budget hearing is to be held.
