Rio Vista planners seek standards for temporary construction fencing; Sunset Plaza remains under CEQA review

At the June 12 meeting commissioners asked staff to prepare design guidance for temporary construction fencing and other short‑term site treatments, citing long‑time fence installations that detract from high‑visibility corridors.

Commissioner (speaker identified in the record) argued the current chain‑link and cyclone fencing can be an eyesore and said it "looks horrible and it's been looking horrible for a very long long time," urging staff to draft standards and time limits. Staff agreed to research examples from neighboring communities and to bring draft options and illustrative examples back to a future agenda.

Code enforcement updates included a red tag issued for unpermitted facade work at 101 North Front Street and recent city‑initiated weed abatements on problem properties. Commissioners asked staff to consider time‑based criteria for temporary fencing and to include aesthetic alternatives for high‑traffic corridors in the draft guidance.

Staff will bring a draft temporary‑fencing design guideline and sample specifications for commission review at a future meeting, and will notify commissioners when Sunset Plaza completes its environmental submittals.
