Josh Spaeth, Presenter, described a recent spill in the fitness center that led to contractor cleanup, air‑quality testing and moisture tests under the floor. He said tests conducted by NC 10 and others showed air quality within acceptable limits and no moisture under the floor.
"Air quality: spot on! Good! No moisture under the floor," Spaeth reported, and said the district had insurance approval to proceed. He recommended reopening the fitness center and extending membership time for users who lost access during the closure by adding the downtime to the back end of contracts rather than issuing refunds.
Board members discussed whether to add the downtime to the back end of existing contracts and asked staff to check contract language. The board approved reopening the fitness center and the staff proposal to extend memberships by voice vote.
Spaeth said the district will provide testing reports and continue to monitor any remaining remediation steps as needed.
