Josh Spaeth, Presenter, told the board the finance manager resigned and the position was posted; he recommended Mr. Ludy serve in a dual role as director of learning and to cover finance responsibilities temporarily.
"He does have a superintendent's license," Spaeth said, noting that Ludy has been working with staff on district reports and that the arrangement would save the district staffing cost while the board searches for a permanent hire. Spaeth warned the role could require a 260‑day workload and asked whether board members had questions.
On benefits and unused time payouts, Spaeth reported HR counsel (Mid‑America) advised about constructive‑receipt limits on certain benefit arrangements. The board discussed offering a cash option for unused sick/personal days this year, with employees still able to direct funds to retirement accounts later through salary‑reduction forms. Spaeth said most employees historically took cash and recommended a cash option for the current year while surveying staff preferences for future practice.
Board members approved the creation/appointment for the combined business manager/director of learning role and approved the payout option by voice vote. Staff will proceed with posting/recruitment for the permanent finance manager and follow up on implementation of the payout process.
