Representatives from Allo briefed the Joplin City Council on April 21 about the company’s buildout progress and community engagement in Joplin.
Allo’s presenters said the south transport conduit is about 88% complete and north transport roughly 55% complete; two central offices (CO1 at 2nd Street and CO2 off 32nd Street) have been installed and powered and are awaiting fiber. The company expects the first go‑live area (PON 212) to be operational by the end of August with initial customer installs in early September.
Construction challenges include solid rock encountered during boring for ring segments and a contractor change on the Southwest Ring that briefly slowed production; Allo representatives said they have replaced the contractor on that segment and are picking up pace. The company emphasized redundancy (two transports and ring architecture) to reduce single‑point failures. Brandon Warren (manager of plant operations, introduced by Allo) described tunneling, pedestal placement and planned efforts to keep larger equipment out of front yards.
Allo also highlighted local outreach: a storefront at 512 South Main Street, door hanger/QR code notifications for construction, 23 upcoming community events and an online construction map (alofiber.com/joplin) where residents can sign up, check status by address and pre‑reserve service.
Council members thanked Allo for the update and asked staff about providing a link on the city website to the company’s construction map to assist residents; staff agreed to coordinate a public information link.
What’s next: Allo will continue construction, finalize permitting and work with the city on resident notifications; the company will return with further updates as segments go live.
