County naturalist wins $16,547 REAP education grant to expand river-based programs

Dallas County Naturalist Allison Dittmer secured a $16,547 REAP Conservation Education Program grant from the Iowa DNR to buy canoes, kayaks, trailer and life jackets for the "Paddles & Purpose" program to broaden river-based STEM and stewardship learning.
The Dallas County Conservation Board was informed that Naturalist Allison Dittmer applied for and received a Resource Enhancement and Protection (REAP) Conservation Education Program grant from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources in the amount of $16,547.
The grant will fund purchase of canoes, kayaks, a trailer and life jackets to expand river-based environmental education under the project title "Paddles & Purpose: Connecting People to the Raccoon River." According to the grant description provided to the board, the program aims to increase equitable access to outdoor education, strengthen STEM learning, and foster long-term environmental stewardship among Dallas County residents living in the watershed.
Director Curt Cable said the DNR funds will be used to support long-term environmental education and that the grant agreement enables the State of Iowa, acting through the Iowa DNR, to assist the Dallas County Conservation Board in providing those opportunities.
